Long Day
It was a long day. Work up at 6.45am on a Saturday. Washed my clothes and spun dried them to hang. Started to prepare myself to go out. By the time I was starting on my breakfast, it was 7.45am. Ahhhh!
I need to doll myself up to get out of the house by 8.15am! I rushed through everything, changed my bottoms 3 times (jeans to skirt to jeans), put some make-up and whoosh! I SMS a friend at 8am, just in case she couldn’t wake up. At least she replied, I thought, "Oh good." Out of the house, 8.20am. I thought I was going to be late. However, my friends were even later. They couldn’t make it at 8.30am at the MRT, hence, they called to say, "Hey, I’m meeting ya all at the ROM centre, hor."
Ok, alright, I was still early. I SMS the same friend. She was bathing when I was half-way to the MRT station. I was going, "WHAT?!" Another friend (her husband had gone back to bed after she called him to wake him up at 7am, that was 8.30am when she met me) managed to meet me at the MRT, we waited till 9.20am and finally the finished-bath girl turned up. We had decided to take the cab. Were half-way down the escalator when we saw her. She didn’t see us. I shouted her name. Loud. Everyone there would have known her name. Embarrassing, man. We walked briskly to take the cab. Great, the cabs were waiting for us.
During the trip, we contacted the other friends to make sure that they had woken up and on the way. I called my boyfriend just in case he couldn’t wake up, no answer. Great, he hasn’t woken up, I thought. When we were reaching, he returned my call, at least he had reached. My friend called her boyfriend, afraid that he’d go back to bed again. At least he was in the cab.
Managed to reach City Hall MRT to meet another 3 people, including my boyfriend. The 3 of them were very cute. One was sitting on the stairs, she was guiding some aunties, hence, the other standing one didn’t see her even though they were in front of each other. She was going to sit at the stairs when we called her, not so resounding like before. She didn’t see us, I thought she had and that’s why she was walking, towards the stairs, not escalator where we had come from. My boyfiend? Well, he walked from UOB lobby reading The New Paper and walked towards us. We went to the staircase to start the mini autography ceremony.
I tried to think of words to write on the card. It was white on the inside and I just couldn’t think of anything at that moment. Yeah, it’s the time of the day.
We managed to make it to the ROM centre to meet the rest of my friends. The bride? She was late and her groom kept coming to us thinking that we would hide her somewhere. He didn’t sleep well the night before and he was very excited that he was going to marry the greatest girl he has ever met. I don’t blame him to keep thinking that we’d keep his bride somewhere. We are her best long time friends.
Finally, the bride arrived. She was gorgeous. With her hair done up very nicely. Everything was pale blue, including her nails, except her lips. Her hands were cold though. Nervous or excited? Maybe both.
After the solemnisation, there was a lot of photo taking at the ROM. They took some in the Spice Garden, where are the spices? We took a few photos with the bride and groom, I meant, husband and wife. Had to distract a friend from looking for the others who were busy autographing her birthday card. Took some photos with just 4 girls with the bride. Her husband? We just ignored him when he had posed for the photographer, he was alone. Evil, huh?
We took a mini van that the husband had specially arranged to take the 12 of us. Mercedes van. How thoughtful of him. We arrived at Merchant Court ahead of the scheduled time. The seating was a little cramp and our thoughtful bride argued with the waitress to get another table for us. The waitress kept thinking there were more than 50 people. Well, please check first before you start arguing with the biggest VIP (bride) la. If the bride had already confirmed, why say otherwise?
Anyway, we had an extra table. The desserts were good. I didn’t try all of them because a birthday cake (chocolate fudge) was going to be dished out after the lunch. I didn’t want to be too full. Gave our friend her present and she loved the watch. Good.
My nemesis was socializing with the bride’s good brother (her colleague). All the while trying to put in some barbed words at me. Obviously hoping for some reaction. I decided to ignore him as much as possible. We started from secondary school. I’ve always wondered why we had to spit fire or spite each other so much. Maybe to build up the atmosphere.
We left the place at 2pm. Gosh. From 8am to 2pm was tiring. Our dear bride was nearly exhausted. She had booked the make-up artist and started the preparations at 8am. I guess, she had woken up even earlier. She’s keen to introduce the artist to me. Everyone’s waiting for me to give them the red bomb. Especially my nemesis, so he can take "revenge" for teasing him and my friend at their ROM.
Let’s just say that I’ve already saved up the amount for it, shall we?
