Circle of Life

We were born as babies. Tiny hands that grasp at anything within an arm’s distance. Laugh when tickled or feel that it’s funny. More like tickled to me, blow on a baby’s stomach and see.

We grew older each year. Learning to walk, talk and grab at things fast. Start to run fast too. In case we get caught for doing something naughty. Or simply want to rebel.

Start schooling at around age 6. Make friends and enemies. He grabbed my pencil. He punched me. He pushed me. He pulled my skirt. Let’s play 5 stones, 0 point, race, etc. Boy-hating, girl-hating age.

Changed school at age 12/13. Make new friends, meet old enemies and first crush. Ooh, isn’t he handsome? Isn’t she the sweetest in class? That girl from the other class, she’s like an angel! Idolising age. Takeshi’s so handsome! Nick Carter from Boyzone! Backstreet Boys! Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok, Leon Lai! Broke a few pieces of test tubes, paid for the ‘fines’.

Changed school again at age 16/17. More new boybands, girl bands, singers and actors/actresses. Experience secret love, hoping he’d notice me but life isn’t fair sometimes. Bitter because he/she loved another and they’re so sickening lovey-dovey. Heartbroken because he/she said not interested. Sigh because V-day seems so sickeningly sweet for those couples. Presented with a flower, but rejected it because I was embarrassed. No more such gestures.

Stressed about exams and projects. Oopz, burst a capacitor. At least I wasn’t sitting there but embarrassed because it was mine. Gosh, no where to hide! Dang the lecturer for saying it in front of the whole class, they must have hurt their intestines from trying to keep their laughter in. Graduation, took photos, promised to keep in touch.

Started working at 20/21. Not really in the area that was studied. But who does nowadays? Not a big bunch, I can tell. Most would have switched lines when they discovered that, OMG, this isn’t what I had in mind. Still not happy because of unfamiliar territory. Got used to it after constant contact. Still thinking about switching back. Humans, not easy to please. Attending friends’ weddings, ROMs and pressured by them to join them in the wagon. I expect TAG Heuer watches when I do get married. MUAHAHA…
